Welcome to the Historical Society of the Northern Territory Australia
The Historical Society of the Northern Territory Incorporated was founded in 1964. The Society, as the name suggests, is particularly concerned with Northern Territory history.
The Society is administered by an elected Council which is based in Darwin. Each year the Council seeks advice from members as to the activities they would like to see planned for that year. Interested members are encouraged to stand for election to Council.
A voluntary organisation, membership is open to those individuals, families or institutions interested in history. To join please download, complete and post the MEMBERSHIP FORM (PDF requires Acrobat Reader).
A monthly Newsletter is posted to members. We are now placing a PDF version of the most recent newsletters on the website. You can also access earlier versions of some of the newsletters.
Northern Territory Historical Studies: A Journal of History, Heritage and Archaeology
The journal publishes material on the history of the Northern Territory or on subjects which have some relevance to Northern Australia. The journal’s editorial committee welcomes the submission of articles, extracts from primary sources, book reviews, and notes on appropriate topics, which it can consider for publication.
