PETRICK, Jose 2017
The life story of well known centralian, Jose Petrick (nee Tizard). Jose came to Australia on a working holiday in 1950. She later became a governess on MacDonald Downs Station, 300km north east of Alice Springs. In 1952, she married Martyn Petrick from nearby Mt Swan Station. Later with their children, the family moved to Junction Station, Barrow Creek where Jose ran the health centre for 100 Aboriginal people. Following Martyn's death in 1974, Jose moved to Alice Springs and became a journalist with the Centralian Advocate. Since then, Jose has undertaken much charity work, mostly in the heritage sphere and written several books. Until she died in her early 90s, Jose still continued to be very active in the Alice Springs community.
The Historical Society of the Northern Territory acknowledges the Larrakia people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which History House stands, and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, sea, and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
