Matthias Ulunguru captured Japanese pilot Hajime Toyoshima who crash landed on MelvilleIsland in 1942. He was sent to a prisoner of war camp in Cowra. A life-size statue of Mr Ulunguru was unveiled on Bathurst Island in 2016.
