The book is about the Northern Territory and its people as a war zone during the 2nd World War. Darwin was first bombed by the Japanese in February 1942 and went on to experience constant bombing and devastation. The remote and sparsely populated Territory was a challenge to the defence of Australia and the people left to defend it.
