 A comprehensive biography of a pilot who became a major figure in Australian airline corporations. Born in Tasmania, he enlisted in WW1 and subsequently joined the Australian Flying Corps. After the war he and a group of colleagues founded Queensland and Northern Territory Airline Service (QANTAS) of which he subsequently became director. In 1934, with Imperial Airways, Qantas Empire Airways was started flying mail between England and Australia. Soon afterwards he was involved in the start of Tasman Empire Airways providing air services to New Zealand. In retirement he published a number of historical works.
